I'm very impressed that just a couple of days since the relaunch and I've already got a couple of trolls here. The same old stuff (same old person I suspect!!) - personal insults, misunderstandings, veiled threats, living in the past, no information background, left wing views ... yawn.
So here are the ground rules - this is a POSITIVE site looking to the future (not the past). It will report on all sorts of railway and future transport developments, and will also look at the decline of road transport, Peak Oil, climate change, future economics etc.
It's not the Daily Mail letters page, and it's not a site for arguing corners. The battle's been won, rail is in the ascendent, road (and air) is in decline. You won't change my views UNLESS you have fully researched and referenced articles and papers to present. Remember I have an economics degree - I will expect you to have at least the same grasp of economics if you are to put over an economic case!
Also, NO personal insults, either to me or any of the projects mentioned.
This site is primarily for INFORMATION, not for reliving/rehashing 1970s arguments! It is ONLY about the future, not the past, past mistakes or past issues. I've earned the right to have an opinion with 40+ years studying the railway scene - I don't appreciate being called opinionated as if it's a bad thing! Opinionated is GOOD - the rail community have been too sheepish and quiet for too long - we've got the bit between our teeth now and won't stop being opinionated until rail reaches every corner of the country! Then I'll have a well deserved rest!
If this isn't what you're looking for there are plenty of nostalgia, pro-road, socialist and puffer-lover sites elsewhere.

Well Sunshiner that just about sets out the "dying roads,vibrant rail" stall. It's quite a brain full to get your head around the emerging route to true localism which has nothing to do with right/left party politics(thank God). With the internet now firmly established and peak oil almost upon us -we should now relish the prospect of the virtual abolition of indepedent travel. We live on the cusp of a quiet revolution in logistics and communications with the 'new local communers' taking centre stage in self government and management of resources,especially localised transport. Vibrant Rail-bring it on!
